This week I’ve been busy writing a proposal and working on some other things I won’t disclose yet.
Hence the lack of emails.
But throughout this week, I learned a bunch of cool (and painful) lessons that I thought I’d share with you.
So here are 10 lessons I learned this week:
1. Speed, speed, speed
The faster you execute on the things you told yourself you’d do, the more money you’ll make, the more peace of mind you’ll attain, and you’re also going to have more time for the things that are genuinely enjoyable to you.
But there’s a problem…
2. Overthinking is a b*tch
Overthinking often gets in the way of taking action.
The only way to stop it is to… stop. You can’t think yourself out of overthinking – there really is no shortcut. I know it’s difficult but sometimes you need to FORCEFULLY reject your thoughts to return to the present moment.
On that note…
3. Stop waiting
"A man who procrastinates in his choosing will inevitably have his choice made for him by circumstance." — Hunter S. Thompson
Stop waiting for permission. Do the thing. You’re much more capable than you think you are.
Last week I found myself playing all sorts of mental gymnastics to avoid pulling the trigger on an important decision. It reached the point where I didn’t want to leave my bed in the morning just to avoid making the decision.
Eventually, I bit the bullet. It was painful for 2 minutes and afterwards… I felt as clear as ever. The mind is a curious entity.
4. You must always have something to look forward to
I’d love to be one of those spiritually enlightened Zen masters who could just exist happily no matter their life circumstances. But I’m not. If I don’t have something to look forward to every day, my life goes to shit.
5. You should never feel confused about the WHAT
But you should feel totally confused and overwhelmed about the HOW.
If you don’t know what to do… you’ve got a problem. If you don’t know how to do that thing… you’re an entrepreneur – congratulations. Educate yourself, test, dive into the unknown. There are no shortcuts.
Onto some marketing lessons…
6. Your business is a fragile machine
Your business consists of 5 components: 1) Traffic, 2) Leads, 3) Sales, 4) Delivery/fulfillment, and 5) Social proof.
If any of these links is weak, the entire system will fall apart. You can’t skimp on any of them.
7. F**cking traffic
In that machine, traffic is the biggest bottleneck for most businesses – including mine. That’s why I’ve started doing what every guru tells you is overrated: Engaging on Twitter.
It’s sexy to say “I don’t engage and I’m still growing!” But for how many people (who are not lying to you) is that actually the case nowadays? Very few. Don’t be lazy, send some comments.
8. Running a B2B business? You’re only selling 2 things:
Money and time. Businesses don’t care about ANYTHING else. And that is an indisputable fact.
9. Have more conversations. Period.
The more 1-on-1 conversations I start… the more money I make. Coincidence? I think not.
10. Use chalk when doing calisthenics
My hands are fucked. I can’t even grip a pencil. Please… do yourself the favor and use some chalk before hitting front-levers and muscle-ups.
‘nough said.
Hope some of these were helpful to you. I’ll catch ya in another one tomorrow.
Talk soon,
Tim <3
