How to write better content than 99% while taking a dump

So, I’ve told you about systems before.

In fact…

I’ve told you they were THE reason for a lot of my success on social media.

Today I want to share my SIMPLE X-step writing system with you, so you can write outstanding content in less than 5 hours/week.

Sound goooood?

Let’s gettit started then.

So before I give you access to my system, let me tell you how I used to write my content…

My - slightly autistic - writing routine looked like this:

  1. Wake up
  2. Boot up my PC
  3. Write

Done.

This worked for a while.

I managed to do this for 4 months without being qualified to reserve my spot in an insane asylum.

But then eventually...

I’d stare at a fucking Google Doc for HOURS without having written a single word.

It was hell.

It felt sorta like being called in front of the class to solve a math problem you have no fucking clue how to solve.

Everyone (including your crush) is laughing their ass off while all you want to do is dissolve into a puddle of tears.

Except for now…

There were no actual people laughing at me…

It was my own brain.

Anyways…

This is NOT how you write good content.

The system I have now is much more efficient, much more fun, and allows me to write MUCH better content.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Decide on the EMOTION

Your writing is shit if it doesn’t evoke an emotional reaction.

Before you start with ANYTHING…

You have to decide what emotion you want to trigger.

More specifically:

What emotional transformation you want to evoke in the reader.

With this newsletter, for example, I’m trying to take you from a place of confusion and being stuck…

To clarity and motivation to get the fuck up and write some banging content (so you can finally make some darn money from it).

Confusion → Clarity

Decide on an emotional transformation to take the reader on.

Step 2: Gather Inspiration

See, the reason why my mind turned shitsophrenic right after waking up was because I hadn’t fed it with the proper ingredients.

That's why I ended up cooking bland chicken and rice.

Maybe a bit of broccoli sometimes.

Unless you’re a bodybuilder, you’ll ALWAYS prefer some crispier, juicier Filet Mignion seared in grass-fed butter served with potato wedges and sour cream.

But how will you cook this meal without the proper ingredients?

Aka. without the proper inspiration?

That’s right, you can’t!

Here’s how I gather inspo:

I take a great piece of writing (either a recent newsletter by another creator, or some classic writing by the greats) and read through it.

Multiple times.

Whenever I feel particularly motivated, I’ll also copy it by hand for 10-15 minutes before a writing session.

This gets those creative juices PUMPING through your limbic system.

Oh, speaking of your limbic system…

Step 3: Change Your State

I don't know about you but…

I can’t write when I’m in a bad mood.

My writing just turns out fucking horrendous.

It’s like urghhh.

So I try to shift my emotional state to a positive one before I sit down to write.

How?

  • Cold shower
  • Some push ups
  • A quick meditation
  • 2000s music (Britney Spears - banging btw)

And if I’m still not in a good mood after that…

I won’t write.

I’ll do something else.

Because it’s simply not worth the effort.

Step 4: Crank Out a Quick Firsty

The first draft… The scariest part about writing.

My goal here?

Get it over with as quickly as possible.

Trust me when I say… I’m fucking speedrunning these.

Because this is truly the hardest part. This is where most beginners get completely stuck.

But here’s something reassuring for you:

My first drafts SUCK.

They suck more than that one character from Nintendo which I forgot the name of.

(That pink ball who sucks the living hell out of you, you know?)

But that’s okay.

Great writing is great editing.

And that’s where we move on to the important part:

Step 5 (or 6? I lost count): Do… nothing

You heard me right…

Leave your writing alone.

Let it marinate (like a juicy Filet Steak - remember?) for 30 mins to 24 hours.

Let those aromas seep in.

Mhhh can you smell that SPICE?

Yes, this is when your writing becomes good - while you’re doing something entirely different.

If you’ve ever read Psycho Cybernetics (solid book, check it out), you’ll know that that’s how our brains work.

They need space for creativity.

My best ideas usually hit me after I’ve written something and while I’m sitting on the throne taking a fat ___.

Sorry, that’s a little graphic.

Step 6: Edit

After 30 mins to 24h it’s finally time to edit.

Take those spicy ideas you’ve collected and sprinkle them on your raw piece of filet steak (your first draft).

This is where gems are made.

(Not while writing the first draft!!)

And if you’ve left your brain enough room to breathe, you’ll be able to create a 5-star michelin meal for your audience.

And that’s how you get a raving crowd of loyal fans.

…That are willing to shove money up your ass.

Hopefully, my friend, you enjoyed reading this breakdown of my writing system.

It ain’t fancy…

But it works darn well.

Give this a try and report how it goes. 🫡

I’d love to hear back from you and I’m genuinely interested in how this system helps you.

Please just shoot me an email.

I respond to all of them :)

Tim <3
