This might not put me in a good light but…
Yesterday I canceled 2 client calls to watch a boxing match.
(Obviously, I still had them, just the day before).
It wasn't just any boxing match tho…
It was 2 of my buddies beating the living SHIT out of each other (it was epic)
That might sound a little weird… But it was a friendly (and once again: epic) fight. (Shout out to these guys haha. One of them is probably reading - the other one died in the fight. Nah jk.)
It was fun to say the least.
But I almost showed up late because I had one more client call in the morning.
With one of my earliest and most talented clients.
He's an incredible writer (he's actually released a guide on this recently).
Despite this…
He came to me with a problem…
He didn't know what the fuck to write about?
More specifically: something that would help him build his brand AND make money…
Something other than flexing with your income and follower count 24/7 (like 99% of desperate creators are).
I gave him a bunch of actionable protocols.
But today I want to talk about one specifically.
I call it the “least boring thing” framework.
It works a little something like this:
Whenever you're staring at that empty white page, getting more and more frustrated with that tiny blinking cursor taunting you...
You ask yourself this EXACT question:
“What's the least boring thing that happened yesterday?”
Answer that question right now.
What's the least boring thing that happened yesterday?
For me, it was that boxing match.
And as you might have noticed… I wrote about it!
BANG, that's an idea right there.
But a story without a lesson is pointless.
So the next question to ask yourself is:
“What lesson can I extract that will benefit my ICP?”
THIS is where the value is created.
Extract ONE (only one) lesson that benefits your ICP in one way or another.
And trust me…
There is a lesson in EVERYTHING you experience.
Yes, everything!
Now, I’m a little sloppy today. It's Sunday. I’m sitting in a crowded cafe and I just interrupted my writing for a 40-minute conversation with a cyclist who has this cool-ass bike.
So I couldn't be bothered to extract a lesson from the boxing story.
Instead, I told you about another story (my client asking for advice).
And now I'm giving YOU some actionable advice.
You see how this works?
The truth is…
You can never run out of ideas with this framework.
Even the most BORING of stories can become a value bomb, because:
It's not about the story itself…
It’s how you tell it.
No matter how boring your life is…
You can tell stories from your personal life if you learn the art of storytelling.
Why should you tell personal stories?
Well, firstly, it's fun as f*ck!
Secondly, you build trust & authority at the same time.
“Value posts” are overrated.
They’re not memorable.
You need to spice them up with your personal story.
People don't care about frameworks, they care about experiences.
Our brain wasn't wired to comprehend facts and numbers. Frameworks and systems.
Our brain thinks in stories, emotions, and experiences.
That's not to say that frameworks and systems aren't useful.
Far from it.
I love them. But you need to package them nicely (with a story) to make them truly memorable.
That's how our brains work.
Alrighty, I’ll continue sipping my 3rd coffee of the day now.
Maybe another cyclist will spin around? Who knows?
Talk soon,
Tim <3
