I am completely and utterly convinced that any adult who DOESN'T sleep with a Teddy Bear in their bed is either:
β
β
Iβm telling you this because Iβm laying next to mine right now (not ashamed at all).
β
It's Tuesday.
β
It's been a long, LONG day at the lab.
β
(I study biomedical chemistry if you didn't know.)
β
And Iβve just belly flopped onto my bed harder than that fat uncle you meet once a year at a pool party.
β
A little background:
β
Every Tuesday I basically get to play with poisonous, corrosive, and sometimes explosive chemicals.
β
Cool stuff.
β
But afterwards Iβm always fucked.
β
Just like today. I have ZERO energy for anything. Replying to DMs at most.
β
Mind youβ¦ weβre in this lab for 9 hours straight.Β
β
Some days we don't even have time to drink water.
β
Kinda fucked.
β
But I wanted to write anyway today.
β
Even though Iβm 2 nanometers away from calling it quits and spreading out in my bed to fall into a coma for 16 hours.
β
But why am I still writing?
β
Because I had an epiphany moment today.
β
And I had to tell you about it.
β
So please, excuse my bad writing (I probably won't even edit this), but here's something to think about:
β
What does every hour of your ideal everyday life look like?
β
Well, it's probably not spent in the lab with the professor watching your every move because you tried to steal some hydrochloric acid once (I plead the 5th)β¦
β
But there's a reason why I framed the question in this mildly autistic manner.
β
See, your life doesn't consist of only highlights.
β
In fact, most of life is boring as fuck.
β
It's just everyday business.
β
So why don't we look for ways to maximize THAT (our day-to-day experience) instead of always chasing after the next highlight.
β
I thought about this a lot recently.
β
I tried all sorts of things to optimize every aspect of my life.Β
β
Squeeze the most possible juice outta that lemon ya know?
β
But it stressed me out.
β
I realized how difficult it was to live my βdream life.β
β
So what did I do?
β
I asked different questions.
β
(This is at the core of my life philosophy. Iβm convinced that if you ask better questions, youβll live a better life.)
β
So instead of trying to βoptimizeβ my days, I tried to make them just a little better.
β
But even this was too vague.
β
And that's when I had the epiphany. (It literally came to me while I had mercury(II)chloride on my fingers.)
β
Instead of thinking in daily incrementsβ¦
β
I started thinking in hourly cycles.
β
Maybe it's just meβ¦
β
But my brain needs this level of ultra-specificity.
β
So I thought about all of my 16 waking hours.
β
And step-by-step identified ONE thing that I could ADD or SUBTRACT from each hour to make it just 1% better.
β
I feel like I've stumbled over gold here.
β
This might just be the way to live your βdream lifeβ faster than you can imagine.
β
I have a feeling that this will make me a lot happier.
β
And it can do the same for you.
β
If you're currently not living the life you want toβ¦
β
Maybe you're stuck with a micromanaging wanker of a boss at a 9-5.
β
Maybe you're still in school and you feel like you're wasting your time there.
β
Or maybe youβre stressed out about your business.Β
β
βWill I make the same amount of money next month? Will I be able to retain client A? Will I sign prospect B? Will I even attract leads at all?!β
β
All these things can prevent us from living a peaceful life. (And if you ask me, that's what matters most. Not status, money, impact, not even freedom - but peace).
β
But taking a moment (or an afternoon) to think about the tiny, 1% improvements that make everything a lot more enjoyable is a life hack.
β
A pretty damn important one.
β
Talk soon,
β
Tim <3
β
P.S. Tell me whatcha think?
β
I literally strung this together on a whim but it was dope af.
