Youβve likely heard of the Halo Effect before.
β
It describes the propensity for a certain positive trait of a person to βovershadowβ other β perhaps negative β traits giving us a more favorable perception of that person.
β
Take Cameron Herrin for example.
β
A handsome-looking young lad from Tampa, FL who gained popularity (mostly among young females) on social media.
β
The internet RAVED about his charming looks.
β
Except, hereβs the catch:
β
He is a convicted murderer whoβs been sentenced to 24 years in prison!
β
Stillβ¦
β
Countless young girls protested that his punishment was crudely unfair because he wasβ¦ βtoo cute.β
β
I think this case is highly interesting.
β
If a literal murderer could gain so much popularity and approval because of an attractive trait (in his case; looks) and overshadow a veryβ¦ unfavorable trait, why couldnβt we do the same?
β
Thatβs not to say we should murder anyone. Please donβt. π
β
But we, as business owners, want to do something quite nasty ourselves:
β
So the question becomes:
β
How can we get someone to LIKE us for taking their hard-earned money by way of associating ourselves with something positive? (i.e. by using the Halo Effect to our advantage)
β
The answer is quite simple:
β
First, we must identify what our ideal customers perceive as βpositiveβ and do everything in our power to associate ourselves with that.
β
βPositiveβ means something different for everyone.
β
As an example: One of my clients runs a SaaS that helps online teachers engage their students. One of the things most teachers perceive as positive is that nobodyβs feelings get hurt.
β
I think itβs utter garbage.Β
β
In my opinion, getting your feelings hurt and βlosingβ is a valuable lesson for any kid to learn.
β
But hey, maybe Iβm just βtoxically masculine.β (π) And besides, my opinion doesnβt matterβ¦ the customersβ does.
β
Anyway, this is simply to say that peopleβs values differ.
β
Nextβ¦
β
Align with that cause.
β
Associate yourself with those positive values by incorporating them into ALL aspects of your marketing.
β
In our example:
β
The sales page Iβm currently writing for my client leans heavily into the βinclusivityβ aspect by citing studies and quoting experts in the field.
β
The underlying lesson I want you to take away is this:
β
Be mindful.
β
Every single decision you make in your business should be viewed through the lens of:Β
β
This is how you build a sort of βhaloβ around your business β a halo that will grant you a positive image in the eyes of your customers.
β
And mind youβ¦ this is NOT manipulative or evil β this is about building a great reputation by doing helpful things.
β
Alright, thatβs it from me today.Β
β
Thanks for reading my lovely little angels! π

Reply with any questions or feedback you want to share with me :)

Peace,
