Why being “generous” is killing your business

Being “generous” is killing your business.

Does that mean I want you to be a dick and never provide any value?

Fuck no.

Hear me out…

I see a lot of creators on X who deliver insane amounts of value.

And of course, people are raving out about them.

But what I’ve found is that the people who provide the most value in public usually make very little money.

They are struggling.

And I can only imagine how frustrating it must be.

You’re spending hours every day cooking up the perfect value post, you receive messages every day telling you how helpful they are…

BUT nobody pays you.

The effort feels wasted.

See, if you want to get paid, you should NOT provide as much value as possible.

Nonono.

What should you do instead?

Use the “drip-feeder” content strategy.

As the name suggests, this is where you intentionally scatter value throughout your content (drip feeding)...

But usually only post insights.

What’s the reasoning behind this?

So don’t get me wrong…

Value content is amazing.

It’s a super powerful tool for making people trust you and establishing you as an authority.

But on its own people won’t be incentivized to buy.

That’s what insight content does (telling people WHAT to do but not HOW).

A mix of both is best (you’ll build trust AND a bigger wallet).

After some time experimenting with this, I’ve found that a ~70/30 ratio of insights to value works best.

But you need to experiment with this for yourself.

But let’s handle a common objection to this:

“Isn’t it immoral to withhold information?”

I disagree.

Hear me out…

Let’s say 1,000 people read your value post.

And let’s also assume your post is so insanely valuable, that it’s literally a step-by-step breakdown of achieving all of your goals.

Of those 1,000 people, how many do you think are going to take action?

Maybe 50.

Of those 50, how many do you think will take your advice super seriously and implement it step-by-step?

Probably 1-2.

How many of them will see REAL results?

I don’t think it’s any.

Okay now let’s say you use the “drip-feeder” strat and sign 3 clients from that.

How many of them will achieve results?

If you know what you’re doing it’s gonna be ALL of them.

Getting someone to purchase your service is one of the best things you can do for them.

Why?

Because THAT’S where you deliver the value.

And because your clients have paid, they’ll be committed.

Commitment leads to action.

Action leads to results.

That’s literally the reason why businesses exist!

So fuck off with “immoral” and start providing value to people who’ll take action…

Not random lookie-loos on the internet.
